January 20th 2020 - I didn't die this week.....🐺

Good day everyone!

I hope you all had a better week than I did. This week was just crazy. Read on to discover more.

Monday was so good. I felt really recharged after it. It was extremely nice to have more shopping options. Least to say I was excited about dollar tree. 😂 I talked to my family and my brother has been taking mission prep. Ah! Makes me so happy! I love being able to talk to my family every week. Such a blessing. That night was okay.

Tuesday was a bit crazy. We went to district council which was pretty good. We have a challenge for the next few weeks. #newyearnofear. Each week facing new fears so that'll be fun. I recieved a long awaited letter from a friend so waiting till 9pm was hard. Did a lot of tracting. Had a great dinner with a sweet family in our ward. Well here comes my story of the week. We decided to go try some houses in a gated community. We get out of the truck and can hear a weird barking sound. As we walked we discussed it and I told sister Roberts "that's not a normal dog bark." As we turned the street corner sister Roberts immediately stops dead in her tracts. As I followed her gaze I locked eyes with a coyote only a few feet away. So logical thing would be to back away slowly right? Yeah not the case for me. Luckily sister Roberts grabbed me before I could bolt too far and we slowly moved away and got back in our car. I have never felt my heart drop so much. Least to say I'm terrified of the night time here now. 😅

Wednesday I'm sad to report was a bit of a sick day. I woke up with my stomach just hating me. I spent most the day just resting. We went to dinner and then our lesson fell through so we bounced around a bit which was hard because I had no energy.

Thursday was just....weird. Really Really weird. We decided to try out walking to our area because we discovered a trail that cuts through so that was nice. We've been trying a lot of people who used to be interested so we went to this older lady's house. Well were pretty sure she was a low key basher because as we talked she told us how she doesn't like how the men of our church control the women and there's no such thing as prophets. Ha. Awkward situation we got out of pretty quick. We came back and had an awesome weekly planning. Set a bunch of goals we want to accomplish and hopefully find some awesome people to teach. We tried another past interested person who was a lady putting in a new fridge. We talked for a bit but she's not interested. A member brought us dinner which was fettuince. Yum. Went to a less active's home where she invited us in, we sat down, and she disappeared for a while. We tried to talk to her mother whose really old and ended up falling asleep. So unable to really just leave we sat there awkwardly for a while until the woman came back. Yeah it was just a weird day of awkward encounters.

Friday was a lot better. We did service at st Vincent's again. Just sorted clothes which they get a lot of awesome stuff in. We then got Wendy's for lunch. Yum! Our other service didn't go well so we just went out tracting. Had dinner with the hamiltons in our ward who took us to a restaurant called chin chin. Amazingly delicious Chinese food. Definitely going back sometime. Had a great lesson with a family were teaching and the spirit was so strong. Loved it.

Saturday I just felt exhausted. We walked to our area again. It was a pretty nice day out. Did a bit of tracting then say the elders in our zone which was fun. Had an amazing lesson with Gina who has such a strong faith. We're hoping if all works out she'll be baptized this next month. Pray for everything to work out! Did some more tracting and was really enjoying the weather. Had a good dinner and more tracting. Seems to be the normal lately. Came back and honestly got a bit homesick.

Sunday really helped me for some reason. I read over my patriarchal blessing which really helped remind me of why I'm here. We went to stake conference which was okay. Came home and had leftover Chinese food. Yay! Took a nap which seriously helped. We went out and I just wanted to knock all the doors. Haha. I knocked a few. We then visited the McIntosh's who are seriously goals when I get older. They've traveled a lot recently. So cool. Had a great dinner and as we knocked some doors we got a lot of return appointments so we felt super good. We came home and had a great discussion about our week. I'm so grateful for sister Roberts and how much we get along.

Least to say this week was extremely challenging. I hit a few points where I considered going home. Heavenly father really answers prayers and helped me regain my fire for this work. I'm grateful for the support I continue to get each week and I know that I can do hard things through heavenly father and jesus christ. This week looks promising for a better week. Stay tuned.

Love,
Sister Sydney Hanks 🐺
